The ratings made their debut after Week 4 games. The Associated Press announced its first high school state football polls last week.

Unlike the state football polls that are voted on weekly by state-wide media, the football computer ratings are based on a numerical formula.

First-level computer points are earned for wins and second-level points for wins by a defeated opponent. A team’s divisional status also is part of the sliding-scale point value, with D-I generating the most points.

The top eight teams in the final computer ratings following Week 10 games qualify for the postseason and the top four earn first-round home games. The playoffs shift to neutral sites in Week 12 (region semifinals).

A shakeup of the computer ratings is assured, beginning this week. Carroll is at CJ in a Greater Catholic League Co-Ed North game. Other things of note:

• Greater Western Ohio Conference members Northmont, Springfield (No. 4), Miamisburg (No. 6) and Fairmont (No. 7) all were among the top eight D-I, Region 3 teams. Wayne was No. 10, but will join that bunch should it beat visiting Northmont on Friday.
