Donald Trump adds Pete Rose nemesis John Dowd to legal team

President Donald Trump recently added to his defense team a name that should ring a bell for baseball fans of a certain age: John M. Dowd.

That’s because Dowd will forever be associated with Pete Rose, who accepted a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball after the Dowd Report was released in 1989.

It was the result of an investigation into Rose’s alleged gambling habits as a player and manager for the Cincinnati Reds.

Cincinnati’s favorite son denied betting on baseball until 2004, when he published the book, “My Prison Without Bars.”

Rose's bid for reinstatement was rejected by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred last year, and his efforts to be allowed to be on the ballot for the Hall of Fame reportedly were rebuffed in December.
