A Division IV, Region 26 team and a member of the Cross County Conference, the Railroaders sunk to 0-10 last season. Its final loss was 30-12 to Mississinawa Valley. Ironically, that’s where Enis starred and was the 1993 Mr. Football. He played running back at Penn State and was a No. 5 overall draft choice of the Chicago Bears.
Enis inherited a Bradford program that had gone 1-9 three straight seasons. The Railroaders were 5-5 in 2010-11 and road All-Ohio running back James Canan to 8-3 in 2012. That culminated with Bradford’s first playoff berth since 1982, losing to eventual state champion Marion Local in the first round.
Enis was twice selected the D-VI state coach of the year. Neither Yingst nor Enis responded to requests for comment. Thursday is the deadline to apply for the position.
On a roll: Dunbar basketball senior guard A.J. "Amos" Harris is making the most of his final spring/summer of AAU ball.
Wolverines head coach Pete Pullen reports that Harris attended both the invite-only Nike Top 20 Point guard Camp and the LaBron James Top 50 Camp. This week Harris will be at Chicago to participate with the USA Midwest team in the Nike-sponsored Global Challenge at Whitney Young High School.
A quick 5-foot-9 point guard and four-year starter, Harris played for the King James Shooting Stars this past AAU season. He has verbally committed to play basketball at Ohio State University.
Toledo bound: Halee Printz of Tippecanoe has verbally committed to play basketball at Toledo. She becomes the second Red Devil to commit, joining junior Carly Clodfelter (Wright State).
Printz, 5-10, led Tipp in scoring (17.6 points), rebounds (7.7) and assists (5.7) last season. She scored in double figures in all but one game and went for 20 or more in 10 contests. She put a season-high 27 points on Wayne.
Tipp was 21-6 last season under head coach Aaron Jackson.
It's an honor: Dayton City League athletic director Jonas Smith has been elected to be the board president for the 2014-15 school year for the Ohio High School Athletic Association board of directors. In the second of a two-year term, he also is the OHSAA's state board's ethnic-minority rep.
Smith is a 1990 Jefferson grad and former Broncos girls basketball head coach. He has been the City League AD since 2006.
