Thurgood Marshall vs. Pace Academy (Ga.) at Flyin’

Thurgood Marshall’s go-to punch of Anthony McComb and Mekhi Elmore led the Cougars to a 64-56 defeat of Pace Academy (Ga.) in the 17th annual Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop final-day opener at Trent Arena on Monday.

McComb had a game-high 21 points and Elmore 16.

Thurgood and Stivers are Flyin’s Dayton City League reps. Stivers lost 66-57 to Cincinnati Taft on Sunday.

“It’s always big-time here,” Thurgood coach Shawn McCullough said. “One thing for me is always putting my players on a big stage. (Flyin’ founder) Eric (Horstman) works with us. He knows we’ve been going through a rebuilding process and he still wants us in. The Thurgood name holds a lot of weight, also.”

It was the first time at Flyin’ for Pace, which was led by Madison Durr’s 16 points and Josh Reed with 15. The Knights are coached by former Miller Grove (Ga.) perennial state champ and coach Sharman White. Pace won the Georgia 3A state titles two of the last three seasons.
