Hamstring twinge puts Kirkpatrick on ice

Cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick sat out most of Saturday’s practice after tweaking his right hamstring early on while covering A.J. Green on a deep route.

“I felt something pull a little bit,” Kirkpatrick said after practice. “I don’t feel like it’s anything major. I could’ve practiced, but on the safe side they wanted to do the smart thing.”

After icing the hamstring for several minutes, Kirkpatrick removed the wrap and watched the rest of practice from the sideline and appeared to be moving around freely.

He said he felt the twinge while running alongside Green, but he still made the play, batting the pass from Andy Dalton away.

“I wanted him on that play,” Kirkpatrick said. “I knew everybody was watching because I had told him I wanted to get a little one-on-one with him.”

Injuries are nothing new for Kirkpatrick, who missed all of training camp his rookie year and a good chunk of the season and was forced to sit out the spring OTAs in 2013.

But he insisted Saturday’s setback was minor and would not take any sort of toll on him physically or mentally.

“I’m not going to let this get me down,” he said. “I’ve had torn knees and torn hamstrings, so this isn’t going to get my confidence level down. Hopefully I can get back out here tomorrow.”

Less Leon: Cornerback Leon Hall, who made his second speedy recovery from a torn Achilles in three years, took most of Saturday's practice off, participating in position drills but no 11-on-11 action.

“Just part of the program,” Hall said. “I felt pretty good the first two days, and I want to go, but you just have to stick to it. It’s got me this far, the plan that we set forth, just I’ll just keep going with it.”

Hall said he expects to follow a “two days one, one day off” plan for the next couple of weeks depending on how he feels.

Still's back: The Bengals cleared Devon Still to practice Saturday, removing him from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list with a sore back.

With Still returning to action, only eight players remain sidelined – left tackle Andrew Whitworth (calf), tight end Jermaine Gresham (back), defensive tackle Geno Atkins (knee), linebacker Marquis Flowers (hamstring), defensive tacklee Zach Minter (back) and wide receiver Ryan Whalen (hamstring) are on the PUP list, while Marvin Jones (ankle) and quarterback AJ McCarron (shoulder) are on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

Parking prize: Traditionally the first few parking spots outside the players entrance to Paul Brown Stadium and reserved for the players with the most years in the league and are marked so with placards.

The spots are still reserved, but for a curious collection of names: Vinny Rey, R.J. Stanford, Brandon Joiner, Sean Porter and rookies Chandler Burden, James Wilder Jr., James Davidson and Lavelle Westbrooks.

So what gives?

“They broke us up in teams and we have various competitions during OTAs,” Rey said. “And my team won. It was things like tossing the medicine ball, who could lift the most weight and we did things in the community.”

Last year head coach Marvin Lewis split the squad into teams and took them bowling. The only prize for that were neon green bowling pins, which still sit in a number of the winners’ lockers.

The prime parking spots won’t be around as long.

“I think it’s just a couple of weeks, but I’m not really sure,” Rey said. “All I know is as long as my name is up there, I’ll be parking right there.”

Roster move: The Bengals released rookie offensive tackle Curtis Feigt on Saturday under the Waived/Left Squad category. His departure leaves the roster at 89, one player shy of the maximum.
