Delilah Cassidy described the incident in a series of tweets, writing that she was returning from a trip overseas and was unable to pay her carry-on baggage fee because American Airlines would not accept cash and all of her credit cards were being declined due to the banks not realizing she was back in the United States.
I consolidate my bags into one and they measure it and say it’s just a little too big. They proceed to charge me $50, except they only take credit card, no cash. Since I just got back from Europe all my cards are being declined as Chase doesn’t know I’m back.

That’s when Gresham stepped in and gave the gate agent his credit card to pay the $50 fee.
I’m astonished and tell him it’s fine not to worry and he hands the lady his card as the American Airlines employees stand in silence shocked by this man’s generosity. They swipe the card and he tells me to have a great flight and hop on board.

Cassidy said she had no idea who was Gresham was. She boarded the plane in tears and found him sitting in first class and gave him a hug.
An American Airlines employee alerted her that the man who paid her fee was a professional football player, and Cassidy caught up with Gresham at baggage claim and offered to pay him cash or send him the money via Venmo, but Gresham declined and told her to pay it forward.
