Former Northwestern, Troy boys basketball coach dies

Former Northwestern and Troy boys high school basketball coach Keith Culley died of brain cancer on Aug. 10. He was 65.

A 1972 Northwestern graduate, Culley, 65, was a teacher and coach at Northwestern, Stebbins and Troy during a 30-year career. He was Troy’s head basketball coach in 2005 when the Trojans advanced to the Division I regional semifinals, losing to eventual state runner-up Cincinnati St. Xavier.

He also coached baseball.

According to his obituary, the “Keith Culley Memorial Scholarship Fund” will annually benefit a graduating Northwestern senior. For more information, see springfieldfoundation.org.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home in New Carlisle. A celebration of his life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
