Forward from Indiana announces commitment to Wright State

Raiders have two commitments in 2020 class

The Wright State Raiders men’s basketball team received a verbal commitment from Andrew Welage, a 6-foot-7 forward from Greensburg, Ind., on Saturday.

Welage, a senior at Greensburg Community High School, received a scholarship offer from Wright State in June. Nevada and Vermont, which was the first school to offer him a scholarship on May 3, were among the other schools recruiting him.

Welage averaged 16.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game and reached the 1,000-point milestone last season as a junior. The Indianapolis star ranked him the 13th best Indiana recruit in the class of 2020.

Welage is the younger brother of Ryan Welage, who scored 1,494 points in a college career that included three seasons at San Jose State and one at Xavier. He averaged 6.7 points last season as a graduate student at Xavier.

Welage joins Brandon Noel, a 6-foot-7 senior forward from Chillicothe High School, in Wright State's 2020 recruiting class. Noel committed to Dayton in June.
