Masters 2017: Meet the Masters amateurs

Following a Masters tradition honoring tournament founder Bobby Jones, the field this year includes five amateurs from four nations.

For the record, no amateur has ever won the Masters. Jones never finished better than 13th (1934), though he had retired from competitive golf four years before he founded the tournament.

This year’s amateur field (alphabetically):

Brad Dalke

Age: 19 Home: Norman, Okla.

Qualification: U.S. Amateur runner-up.

A third-generation University of Oklahoma athlete, Dalke is the youngest player in the field.

Toto Gana

Age: 19 Hometown: Santiago, Chile

Qualification: Latin American Amateur champion

With no current plans to turn pro, Gana is a freshman at Lynn (Fla.) University.

Scott Gregory

Age: 22. Hometown: Corhampton, England

Qualification: British Amateur champion

Only member of the field from Crookhorn College of Technology.

Stewart Hagestad

Age: 25 Hometown: Newport Beach, Cal.

Qualification: U.S. Mid-Amateur champion

The former USC Trojan is a financial analyst.

Curtis Luck

Age: 20. Hometown: Perth, Australia

Qualification: U.S. Amateur champion

Luck actually qualified twice, also winning the Asia-Pacific Amateur title.

Three Masters amateurs have finished second: Frank Shanahan, 1947 (5 under par); Ken Venturi, 1956 (2 over par) and Charlie Coe, 1961 (7 under par).
