“We just started interviews this week and with spring break next week we’ll have a little break, so we’re hoping to wrap it up mid to late April,” Hughes said.
“It’s early in the process right now. We have an assistant that has applied, but nobody within our district has applied. Nobody on our teaching staff applied.”
That would suggest Andy Keating, thought to be a potential frontrunner, did not or has not applied yet. Keating, a high school physical education teacher and junior high health teacher, led Valley View to the Division IV state title in 1996 and was a backup quarterback at West Virginia.
Stone, who coached the football team for 14 seasons, led the Lumberjacks to the playoffs six times from 2001-08. Oakwood was a combined 6-14 the past two seasons, including 1-9 in 2009 for Stone’s only losing season. Oakwood went 5-5 in 2010.
Centerville’s Scott gives verbal
Centerville softball player Chandler Scott gave Bowling Green State University a verbal commitment to play there.
Scott, a junior, plays first and third base for the Elks. She hit .352 last season, collecting 31 hits in 88 at-bats with four doubles and 10 runs batted in.
Football combine held in Fairborn
An Ohio High School Football Coaches Developmental Combine will be held at Sportsplex in Fairborn on Saturday.
Registration starts at 10:30 a.m., and the combine runs from noon to 4 p.m.
The combine is aimed at preparing high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors who plan to participate in college football combines this spring and summer. Participants will be instructed and tested on six drills: 40-yard dash, power ball throw, L-shaped cone drill, pro shuttle, vertical jump and broad jump.
