MADISON TWP., Butler County — Madison High School senior Ally Malott was named to the prestigious McDonald’s All-American team Thursday as one of the country’s top high school basketball stars.

A future University of Dayton Flyer, Malott, a 6-foot-3 forward is averaging 20.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game for the Mohawks (16-3). Last season, she helped lead Madison to the Division III state championship game.

“It’s just an amazing opportunity and an honor to be able to play with supposedly the top 24 girls across America. I’m just excited to get a chance to go up there and play,” she said.

The McDonald’s All-American games — boys and girls — are March 30 at the United Center in Chicago.

“It’s an unbelievable honor, something that will follow her for the rest of her life,” Madison coach John Rossi said.

Malott said she learned of her selection two weeks ago, but had to keep it a secret. She told a couple of her teammates but it wasn’t until Wednesday when Rossi made an announcement to the team that everyone found out.

“I don’t know if I’m even allowed to tell you that I even knew two weeks ago,” she laughed. “I’m really excited about this. It’s a big honor.”

Malott said she’s looking forward to heading to Chicago for the game, noting that some of the members of the gold-medal winning USA Women’s U-18 national team she played with this summer in the FIBA Americas Championship also were named to the McDonald’s squad.

Malott is a two-time Division III All-Ohio first team pick and a two-time D-III Southwest District Player of the Year.
