Trotwood-Madison guard Brown earns MVP award at basketball camp

Senior guard James Brown of Trotwood-Madison High School was named MVP of last week’s High Potential Blue Chip basketball camp at Georgetown, Ky.

“Woo” was named the best of about 300 attendees in the 32nd annual event. Among other camp efforts, he was named the All-Star game runner-up for the White team, scoring 14 points.

Brown averaged 8.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Rams last season.

Pair places at nationals

Beavercreek junior Nick Cobra and Matthew Kolodzik, a Bellbrook resident and incoming freshman at Miami Valley, both placed in the USA Wrestling Cadet and Junior National Championships last weekend at Fargo, N.D.

Cobra was third in the Cadet 171-pound Greco-Roman class. Kolodzik was fifth in 105 Cadet freestyle.

Both were part of the Beavercreek-based Raider Wrestling Club.

Also participating were Josh Hogan (Centerville), Grant Pittroff (Miamisburg), Armani Robinson (Greeneview), Andrew Sizer (West Carrollton), Joseph Wheeler (Bellbrook), Matt Denlinger (Fairmont), Tommy Kimbrell (Fairmont), Jordan Marshall (Troy Christian), Steve McPherson (Beavercreek), Mykel Seabury (Carroll) and BJ Toal (Troy Christian).

Henry on winning relay

Trotwood-Madison grad William Henry ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay (3:08.20) in the Pan American Junior track and field championships at Miramar, Fla., on Sunday. On Friday, Henry was fourth in the open 400.

The event was for athletes ages 16-19. Henry will be a sophomore at Arizona State this fall.

Extra points

• Ryan Hill has been promoted from assistant to varsity baseball coach at Oakwood. The position opened when Nathan Hyatt resigned last spring after he was named offensive coordinator in football at Chaminade Julienne.

• The Beavercreek boys and girls varsity soccer teams will play alumni teams on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the high school. The girls will play at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7. Alumni are needed for both teams. Contact Tony Faltys at (937) 231-7393 or at tfaltys@gmail.com.

• Beavercreek grad Shelby Maloney will play basketball at Marietta, an NCAA Division III program. A 6-foot forward, she averaged 8.6 points and 2.0 rebounds as a senior last season. She was a special mention Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division.

• Center fielder Nick McGill of Carlisle has signed to play baseball at Ohio Dominican. In 25 games he had 25 hits in 66 at-bats for a .378 batting average.

• Fairmont grad Taylor Moore has signed to play soccer at Cincinnati State this fall.
