Wayne senior, Dunbar junior named to All-Ohio boys first teams

Wayne senior Travis Trice II and junior Deonte Hawkins of Dunbar were named to the All-Ohio boys high school basketball first teams on Monday.

Trice, a 6-foot guard, averaged 24.5 points in leading the Warriors (22-2) to a Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division championship and earning a spot on the All-Ohio Division I first team. The four-year starter has signed to play at Michigan State University next season.

Hawkins, a 6-7 forward, led the Wolverines (22-3) in scoring at 16.7 points and also was the Dayton City League player of the year. He made the D-II All-Ohio first team.

Joining Trice II in earning All-Ohio D-I honors was senior teammate Markus Crider, a third-team pick. He has signed with Providence.

Trey Burke of Columbus Northland and Trey Lewis of Garfield Heights shared the D-I player of the year award. Lakota East coach Wally Vickers also shared the D-I coach of the year.

Graham senior Nick Van Hoose was a second-team D-II pick and Alter sophomore Jaaron Simmons a D-II third-team selection.

Damond Powell of Toledo Rogers was the D-II player of the year and Randy Kortokrax of Columbus Hartley the D-II coach of the year.

The All-Ohio Division III and IV teams will be announced today. Mr. Basketball will be announced on Wednesday.

All-Ohio selections are based on recommendations of a media panel.
