High-scoring Miami sophomore enters his name in NBA Draft

Sibande, a 6-foot-4 guard from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, averaged 15.1 points per game as a freshman and 16.1 as a sophomore. He has scored 1,031 points in two seasons. He was a third-team All-Mid-American Conference selection as a sophomore.

“We are taking the necessary steps to get the proper feedback for Nike, so he can make an informed decision about his future,” Owens said in a press release. “He will evaluate his feedback and has an open mind about returning to Miami.”

Underclassmen have until April 21 to declare for the draft. If they want to return to school, they have to withdraw from the draft by 5 p.m. on June 10. The draft takes place June 20.

A new rule passed last year allows underclassmen to hire an agent and still return to school as long as they terminate the agreement with the agent.

“This is just part of the process towards reaching my future goal of playing in the NBA,” said Sibande. “I look forward to getting feedback from the committee as to where I stand right now and what I need to work on.”
