Dayton Gems invite three locals to first camp

TROTWOOD — The International Hockey League’s Dayton Gems, who open their inaugural training camp Oct. 5, are inviting three local players for tryouts after seeing them in a free-agent camp. Derek Nova of Troy, Ben Bullis of Kettering and Aaron LaFavre of Centerville will receive invitations, the team announced Friday, Sept. 25.

“These guys were the best that we saw, and we’re excited to invite them,” head coach John Marks said.

The camp, which will take place at Hara Arena, is open to the public and includes exhibitions against Toledo on Oct. 8 and Evansville on Oct. 14.

Dayton opens the regular season Oct. 16 against the defending Turner Cup champion Fort Wayne Komets.
