Grand Lake St. Marys: Warm weather curtailed fishing over the past week, but as the water temperature drops, fishing will pick up. Crappies can be found around channel banks early and late. During the day, they're hiding under docks and pontoons. Bluegills are hitting waxworms along the rocks. Catfish are biting all over the lake on cut bait and nightcrawlers. Coming up: crappie tournament on Sunday and a benefit catfish tournament on Oct. 14. Call 419-394-5769 for details.
Indian Lake: Few people have been fishing. A few catfish have been caught in the river on cut bait and nightcrawlers. Fishing should improve as the water cools.
Acton Lake: Most of the action has been for catfish, which seem to be biting all over the lake on nightcrawlers and chicken liver. For crappies, fish early and late around the sugar camp and near the dam. Most crappies are being caught on minnows. For bass or saugeyes, try trolling or casting with a crankbait along the shore, especially around weedbeds.
Lake Loramie: The best crappie fishing has been early and late under the Luthman Road and Ohio 119 bridges. Minnows have been the best bait. A few crappie/bluegill fishermen have been catching yellow perch on redworms.
Paint Creek Lake: The best fishing has been early and late. For crappies, fish along bluff walls and around wood, 5-10 feet deep. Use minnows or black/chartreuse tubes. Saugeyes have been caught between the beach and the island and around the hazard zone. Anglers are mostly trolling with Shad-Raps. For bass, work the points and bluff walls with black or green/pumpkin worms around wood. Bluegills are around docks and brush, hitting waxworms and mealworms.
Rocky Fork Lake: Saugeyes are being caught by trolling a Shad-Rap or a crawler harness in front of both beaches. Bass fishermen are looking for weed beds and fishing with buzzbaits or using 6-inch green/pumpkin worms around stumps. Crappies are hanging close to the bottom, about, 5-10 feet deep. They are biting on minnows and blue/chartreuse tubes.
Lake Erie: Walleye fishing is improving with the best reports coming from "B" can of the Camp Perry firing range, near Crib and Niagara reefs and near Kelleys Island Shoal. Try casting mayfly rigs tipped with worms, or troll with crankbaits, or divers and spoons.
Yellow perch fishing has been excellent near the Maumee Bay lighthouse, just off Turtle Island, off Little Cedar Point, near the Toledo water intake, near “A” and “G” buoys of the Camp Perry firing range, around Rattlesnake Island, west of Catawba Island, north of North Bass Island, near Gull Island Shoal and between South Bass Island and Kelleys Island. Smallmouth bass are being caught nearshore around Kelleys and South Bass Islands, and on the reefs of the Camp Perry firing range. Try casting tube jigs or using drop shot rigs.
