Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis confirmed Wednesday that injured Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green will not play in Sunday’s regular-season finale against Baltimore.

Green, who hasn’t played since suffering a hamstring injury Nov. 20 against Buffalo, appeared to be close to a return last week when he said he felt ready to play and the team upgraded him from doubtful to questionable.

But the night before the game in Houston, the team decided not to play Green and he flew home to be with his family on Christmas eve.

Green will fall 36 yards shy of his sixth consecutive 1,000-yard season, finishing the year with 66 catches for 964 yards and four touchdowns.

Lewis said linebacker Vontaze Burfict is in concussion protocol and “progressing through it,” leaving his status in question for the Ravens.
