TALAWANDA HOSTING SPAGHETTI DINNER: Friday, Jan. 29, is the rescheduled date for the winter spaghetti dinner fundraiser hosted by Talawanda High School’s Athletic Boosters. Dinner will be served from 4-8 p.m. when the Braves boys basketball team hosts Northwest. Tickets can be purchased from any THS winter sports athlete or cheerleader. They’re also available in the athletic office and at the door on the 29th. Among items being raffled at Miami University hockey tickets, Talawanda sports memorabilia and a 19-inch flat-screen color television.

MIAMI MIDDLETOWN HALL OF FAME BANQUET JAN. 30: Miami University Middletown will honor its fourth class of Hall of Fame inductees at a banquet to be held on Jan. 30 in the Campus Community Center. Members of this year’s class are Paula Chenoweth (1980-84), Anna Smith Moore (1987-90) and Eugene Spicer (1975-76) in basketball; Todd Kinder (1978-82) in tennis; and Kent Stevens (1979-82) in golf. The evening will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the ceremony at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person with all proceeds going to benefit the Greg Lansaw Scholarship Fund. EDGEWOOD YOUTH BASEBALL, SOFTBALL SIGNUPS: Edgewood Youth Baseball and Fastpitch Softball registrations will take place Saturday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Holy Name Catholic Church Parish Center (222 Hamilton Ave.) in Trenton. All boys between the ages of 4-17 and girls between the ages of 4-14 are eligible to register. Children must attend an Edgewood school or live in the city limits of Trenton or village limits of Seven Mile, New Miami or Jacksonburg. a copy of birth certificate is required. Fees for each age group are: boys and girls ages 4-8 ($75 per child); girls 9-14 ($100 per child), boys 9-15 ($100 per child), boys 16-17 ($200 per child). There is a $250 family maximum and the late fee of $25 will be assessed after Feb. 15. There will be no registrations accepted after Feb. 28. HAMILTON DAY AT MIAMI UNIVERSITY JAN. 30: The first City of Hamilton Day with the RedHawks will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, when the Miami University men’s basketball team hosts Eastern Michigan in a noon game at Millett Hall. The City of Hamilton will be part of the pregame and halftime festivities. FREE ADMISSION FOR CAMPERS TO LAKOTA EAST GAME: Anyone who has attended the Hawk Basketball Camp either last summer or the Holiday camp will receive free admission to the Lakota East basketball game against Colerain on Tuesday Feb. 2 by wearing the camp T-shirt. Free admission is for the participants of the camp only.

EAST-WEST GAMES TO RAISE MONEY: The 2010 Lakota East vs. Lakota West boys and girls basketball games promises to be a slam-dunk in the fight against heart disease as teams raise funds for the American Heart Association. The girl’s game will be held on Saturday, February 6 at 2 p.m. at and the boy’s game is Friday, February 12 at 7:30 p.m. Both games are Lakota East. The month of February is officially Heart Month across the country. During this time, the American Heart Association encourages people to take part in the fight against heart disease by going to the doctor to learn their numbers and making positive lifestyle changes such as exercising, eating less fat and quitting smoking. Each Lakota basketball t-shirt bears the slogan, “Beating Heart Disease Together” and are on sale for $10, with a portion of the proceeds going to the American Heart Association. LAKOTA WEST GIRLS SOCCER MEETING IS FEB. 18: There will be a Lakota West Girls’ Soccer Information Meeting on Thursday, February 18 at 7:00 pm in the diner at Lakota West High School. The meeting is for all girls currently in grades 8 through 11 that will or currently attend Lakota West High School and are interested in trying out for the 2010 Lakota West Girl’s Soccer teams. CHILI OPEN SET FOR FEB. 20: The 2010 Chili Open will be held Feb. 20 at Weatherwax Golf Course. The event is the annual fundraiser for the Middletown Area Golf for Youth Council (MAGYC), which sponsors the City Junior Match Play and Medal Play tournaments, as well as a summer competition series for youth. The event is a 9-hole scramble format for three-person teams. Teams will be paired in sixsomes. Cost of the event is $25 per person. Entries are limited to the first 300 teams. MARCH GOLF MADNESS AT WILDWOOD GOLF CLUB: Wildwood Golf Club has announced a special trial membership for the month of March called “March Golf Madness.” For $100, anyone who has not been a member for the last three years can get a month of unlimited golf to try out the club. HAMILTON HOLDING SOFTBALL REGISTRATION: Hamilton Parks & Recreation softball league registration has started. Early-bird registration will run until March 31 with a cost of $400 per team. From April 1-9, the fee will be $420. After April 9, the fee will be $425. Manager meetings will be held April 12-13 at the Colligan Lodge on New London Road. Registration will take place at the Parks & Recreation office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., the North End softball complex Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and by appointment by calling (513) 868-5820. Payment in full is required to register. The season will begin April 19, and all games will be played at North End. All leagues will be ASA sanctioned. Leagues being offered are Church (16 and older) and Junior (13-15) on Mondays; Church (16 and older), Junior (13-15), men’s International (16 and older) and women’s open (16 and older) on Tuesdays; 40-plus, 50-plus, 60-plus on Wednesdays; men’s Industrial (16 and older) and women’s Church (16 and older) on Thursdays; and men’s open (16 and older) and coed (16 and older) on Fridays.

BUFF PRESENTS FLY FISHING SHOW FEB. 6: The Buckeye United Fly Fishers (BUFF) will hold its annual Greater Cincinnati Fly Fishing Show on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Receptions Banquet and Conference Center in Fairfield. Show hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person. Scouts in uniform and children 12 and under are admitted free. Parking is also free. The show will offer a wide variety of activities including seminars, ongoing fly tying and rod building demonstrations, door prizes, exhibits by fly shops, guides, outfitters, equipment representatives, other fishing clubs, state and local resource groups, and more. SPRING FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE ORGANIZING: Hamilton Little Blue will have a coed spring flag football leagues for ages 5-17. The season will run from April through mid-June, and practice will start March 27. There is guaranteed playing time, flexible practice schedules and free admission to all games. UMPIRE CLASSES START IN FEBRUARY: The Southwestern Ohio Umpires Association will begin instructional classes Sunday, Feb. 7, at 3 p.m. for individuals interested in becoming baseball and softball officials with the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Anyone in high school or older is welcome. Classes will be held Sundays, Feb. 7 through March 28, at the Hampton Bennett School, located at 150 East Sixth Street in Franklin. Fee is $135. There is an additional fee of $45 for those wanting OHSAA certification in both sports.
