McKinley Wright told the St. Paul Pioneer Press about 15 schools have contacted him since the Dayton Flyers released him from his signed letter of intent and he will start to cut his list down in the next two weeks.
Minnesota, Indiana, Butler, Baylor, Colorado and Dayton are among the schools Wright, a senior at Champlin Park High School (Minn.), is considering.
Winning the Minnesota Mr. Basketball Award improved Wright’s stock, he said.
“I proved what I can do for the coaches that didn’t see me,” Wright said. “So a lot of new schools reached out that I haven’t talked to before. I think I proved that I could play at that level to a lot of new schools.”
New Dayton coach Anthony Grant kept two signed recruits in the fold: Jordan Davis and Jordan Pierce. Wright and Nahziah Carter asked for their release.
“We’re still actively involved in recruiting McKinley, but at the end of the day I don’t know what will happen with him,” Grant said Monday.
Wright ranked 158th in the class of 2017, according to 247Sports.com. Davis ranked 211th.
