Former Cincinnati Reds all-star Jay Bruce cleared waivers Friday, making him eligible to be traded by the New York Mets.

According to reports by MLBTradeRumors.com and Fox’s Ken Rosenthal’s Twitter, Bruce can now be traded with the only exceptions being teams on his eight-team no-trade clause.

The Mets tried dealing Bruce before the July 31 trade deadline. Some New York media speculated that the Mets could keep Bruce through the season and re-sign when he becomes a free agent in the offseason.

Bruce has always been a top defensive outfielder, and had good numbers through 100 games, hitting a .262/.325/.521 slash with 29 home runs and 75 RBIs.

Bruce is a former Dayton Dragon.
