“You’re never gonna really have bad all the time. There’s only going to be bad parts during part of the day, so if you can get past those bad parts and bring back the positivity, you can make things grow from there. You’ve just got to get over this hump right now.”

Rucker-Furlow is aiming for a starting role in the Miami defense during preseason camp but had the Gem City on his mind when news of the shooting came August 4.
“I was really feeling the pain that they have throughout my whole day,” he said. “I had to also be positive because I know some people at home who were really affected, just some people with family who got shot.

“Really I just want to send out prayers and love to them because it’s really a hard time right now for Dayton.”
Rucker-Furlow, a sophomore defensive back, is one of five area players on the Miami roster.

Miami opens the season August 31 at Iowa.
