Michigan State snags commitment from Dayton prep standout

Dunbar four-star prospect Joseph Scates has gotten his recruiting decision out of the way early.

The Wolverines junior announced Tuesday night he is going to Michigan State.

“I just want to take this time to thank god for blessing me with the ability and talent to have a chance at the next level,” he wrote.

Per 247sports composite rankings, Scates is rated the No. 25 wide receiver in the country and the No. 6 player in the state for 2018, a list that is loaded with southwest Ohioans near the top.

Fairfield offensive lineman Jackson Carman is the No. 1 prospect in the state with Wayne receiver L’Christian Smith ranking No. 3 and Springfield athlete Leonard Taylor at No. 5.

Dunbar linebacker Antwuan Johnson is No. 17.
