Coupled with Pickerington Central’s first loss, the win at least temporarily separates Northmont from the rest. The final three weeks of the regular season will be a preview of the postseason. Here’s why:
• Miamisburg hosts Northmont in Week 10.
• Fairmont is at Springfield in Week 10.
• Wayne hosts Fairmont in Week 8, is at Springfield and finishes by hosting Trotwood-Madison (5-2).

Northmont coach Tony Broering is a Springfield Shawnee graduate and former Springfield South head coach. His ties to the Wildcats still runs deep.
“Most of those guys on that (Springfield) staff played for me,” Broering said. “A lot of the (Springfield players), I coached their dads. The kids know it’s important to me and they played their hearts out.”

Here’s some other Week 7 highlights from Friday night’s results:
• Missing among those Greater Western Ohio Conference teams is Centerville (0-7). Lebanon extended the Elks’ freefall 20-12 on Friday. Centerville is just one year removed from a 10-2 season.
Ahead 12-10 in the fourth quarter, Centerville held a huge stat advantage and seemed in great position for its first win. Instead, Lebanon’s Billy Crago converted a go-ahead 38-yard field goal and Kyle Short added a clinching 1-yard touchdown run with 1:32 to clinch the Warriors’ wins.

• Covington (4-3) won its fourth straight contest with a stunning 54-7 beatdown of Bethel (4-3). Ansonia (5-2), Tri-County North (5-2) and Covington are all tied for second in the Cross County Conference at 4-1 behind leader Fort Loramie (6-1, 5-0).
• Franklin (3-4) is out of D-III, Region 12 playoff contention, but the Wildcats also likely knocked Valley View (3-4) out of the postseason with a 31-10 win.

»WEEK 6 REWIND: Springfield last remaining unbeaten GWOC team
Middletown Madison (7-0, 4-0 Buckeye) and Bellbrook (7-0, 3-0 Southwestern) remain unbeaten in the Southwestern Buckeye League.
• Miamisburg rebounded from its first loss to Fairmont in Week 6 by defeating Springboro 21-7. Quarterback Tate Vongsy completed 9 of 16 passes for 175 yards and Jon Yerkins, Zion Lewis and Vongsy all had 98 yards rushing.

• St. Henry (5-2) returned to D-VI, Region 24 playoff contention after landing a 34-14 defeat of defending D-VII state champ and Midwest Athletic conference rival Minster (5-2). Coldwater (6-0), marion Local (7-0) and St. Henry are bunched in Region 24. Coldwater was scheduled to play at Delphos St. John’s (1-5) on Saturday.
• West Jefferson landed a resounding Ohio Heritage Conference win by defeating previously unbeaten Mechanicsburg 23-19. West Jeff (5-2) scored the game winner on a 25-yard pass with nine seconds left.

Wayne 49, Beavercreek 17: Devin Nelson rushed for 164 yards and three TDs on nine carries as the Warriors improved to 2-0 in the GWOC National East division.
Rashad McKee rushed for two TDs for the Warriors (5-2), who host Fairmont next week in a crucial division game.
Beavercreek lost its fourth straight game, falling to 1-6 and 0-2 in the division.
Trotwood-Madison 42, Fairborn 6: Cooper Stewart had two rushing TDs and Keon Hamilton and Keon'Tae Huguely each added a rushing TD as the Rams improved to 5-2 and 2-0 in the GWOC American South.
Troy 25, Butler 0: Jaydon Culp-Bishop rushed 23 times for 229 yards and three scores as the Trojans (6-1) rolled to their second straight GWOC American North division win. Butler is 4-3 and 1-1 in the division.

Bellbrook 41, Eaton 6: The Eagles improved to 7-0 and 2-0 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern Division.
Sidney 16, Tippecanoe 10: The Yellow Jackets' Caleb Harris rushed for 166 yards in the GWOC American North victory.
Quarterback Ryan Dunham went 18-for-25 for 181 yards and two TDs for Sidney (4-3, 1-1).
Josh Burritt had 104 yards rushing and a TD and Cade Beam added 101 yards rushing for the Red Devils (3-4, 0-2).
Xenia 52, Stebbins 10: Sincere Wells rushed for 141 yards and four TDs in the GWOC American North opener for the Buccs (4-3, 1-0).
