Ohio State Buckeyes: 2021 class dominates updated national rankings

Four future Buckeyes are in the national top 10 and seven are in the top 50 of the updated 247Sports ranking of the Class of 2021 football recruits.

Leading the way is Jack Sawyer, a defensive end from Pickerington North who is the No. 1 player in Ohio and No. 5 in the nation.

Donovan Jackson, an offensive lineman from Bellaire (Texas) Episcopal is No. 6 in the nation while receiver Emeka Egbuka of Steillacoom, Wash., is No. 8.

Running back TreVeyon Henderson of Hopewell, Va., moved up one spot to No. 10 while defensive lineman Mike Hall of Streetsboro, Ohio, is the No. 36 overall and cornerback Jordan Hancock of Suwannee (Ga.) North Gwinnett is No. 46 while quarterback Kyle McCord of Philadelphia is 48th.

Ohio State signed 21 players in December on the early National Signing Day and could add more next week.

Although head coach Ryan Day said the roster is close to full, the staff figures to find room if the right players come along.

“How much room do we have? We really don’t have much,” Day said last week. “We’re pretty full right now. Pretty healthy roster. That can always change. There might be one spot available, but other than that we’re pretty full.

“Again, we’ll keep evaluating, keep looking at it. We’re certainly continually recruiting some guys here towards the next signing day. And we’ll probably have would have a spot for one guy.”

Multiple reports, including 247Sports, indicate Ohio State is still in the running for J.T. Tuimoloau and Raesjon Davis.

The 6-foot-4 1/2, 277-pound Tuimoloau is a defensive lineman from Eastside Catholic in Sammamish, Wash. He is the top-rated player in the country regardless of position while Davis is a linebacker from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., and the No. 69 player overall.
