Ohio State Buckeyes: Former USC commit coming to Columbus instead

Ohio State football is set to add another talented quarterback to the mix later this month.

Devin Brown, a four-star recruit and the No. 1 prospect in Utah, announced Wednesday night he has committed to sign with the Buckeyes.

The former USC commit who played at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah, last season will again give Ohio State four highly-rated prospects in the quarterback room when he enrolls in January, joining returning starter C.J. Stroud, Kyle McCord and Quinn Ewers (if neither of the latter two opt to transfer).

Stroud, a four-star recruit in the class of 2020, is the reigning Big Ten freshman, offensive player and quarterback of the year while McCord and Ewers were both five-star prospects in the class of 2021.

Ewers was originally set to be Ohio State’s quarterback for the 2022 class, but he opted to graduate early and enroll in school in August. He was the No. 1 prospect in the current senior class before reclassifying.

Jack Miller III, another four-star 2020 recruit, was part of the quarterback group this season but announced earlier this week he is looking to transfer.

Brown told 247Sports he has developed a strong relationship with Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis and looks forward to the chance to compete for playing time in Columbus.

“Knowing they have one of the best quarterback rooms in the country, that’s something super appealing,” Brown told the site. “To be the best, you have to beat the best and I just want to go prove myself.

“They just have so much talent there. All the receivers they have, all the linemen and recruits they’re bringing in, we’re building something special in Columbus. Being in in the Big Ten and with all the tradition, it’s just a special place to be.”

The 6-3, 189-pound Brown is the No. 52 player in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 5 quarterback in the country.

His other offers included Mississippi, Texas and Arizona.

The early signing period begins Dec. 15, and Ohio State has the No. 4 class in the country as of Dec. 1.

Alter star C.J. Hicks headlines the group, which also includes Lakota West teammates Tegra Tshabola and Jyaire Brown.
