No. 8 Wisconsin advanced to the OSU 4-yard line but could go no farther.
The Buckeyes (6-0, 3-0) stopped Corey Clement for no gain on first and third down and forced an incomplete pass by Alex Hornibrook on second down.
Tyquan Lewis sacked Hornibrook on fourth down to end the game.
The Badgers (4-2, 1-2) led 16-6 at the half, though their advantage could have been more.
They outgained the Buckeyes 313-172 with Clement rushing for 110 yards and receiver Jazz Peavy picking up 67 yards on five end arounds.
Barrett was just 6 for 14 in the first half for 81 yards.
With his protection struggling at times, Barrett had a hard time getting on the same page as his receivers, who also were guilty of multiple drops in the first half.
But Ohio State outgained Wisconsin 118-11 in the third quarter and outscored the Badgers 7-0 to draw within three points.
Barrett barreled in from a yard out for the only score of the period, but he also threw an interception in the end zone to end another OSU scoring threat.
He put the Buckeyes on top with an 8-yard touchdown run less than a minute into the fourth quarter, but the Badgers weren’t done.
Hornibrook hit Peavy on a 36-yard pass on a third-and-9 to kickstart the drive, and fullback Austin Ramesh scored from four yards out to put Wisconsin back on top with 7:54 left.
Ohio State came back to tie it on a 31-yard field goal by Tyler Durbin with 3:57 left.
Barrett finished with 226 yards passing and 92 yards on the ground with three total touchdowns. He broke Wayne graduate Braxton Miller’s school record for total touchdowns, finishing with 89 for his career. Miller had 88.
Brown caught four passes for 48 yards, and Clement led the Badgers with 164 yards on 25 carries.
Sam Hubbard and Jalyn Holmes each had two of Ohio State’s eight tackles for loss.
