Kevin Kuwik was the lone remaining assistant on campus. He had been working with Grant in recent weeks. Grant said Monday he was considering Kuwik, but Kuwik’s six-year run with the Flyers ended when Dayton announced Grant’s staff and updated its website with photos of the new coaches.

The Flyers move on with a completely new set of coaches: associate head coach Anthony Solomon, assistant coach James Kane, assistant coach Ricardo Greer and assistant to the head coach Darren Hertz.
“I think we are a staff whose strengths will complement each other, but there are two critical areas where there is a lot of common ground,” Grant said in a press release. “They are all high-character men, and each one is very good at creating and establishing relationships, whether it is relationships with our current players and our recruits, their families or people in the Dayton community.”
Here’s a quick look at the four coaches:
Solomon: Aside from Grant, Solomon is the only coach on the staff with a connection to Dayton. He coached under Brian Gregory in the 2007-08 season. Prior to that, he spent four seasons as the head coach at St. Bonaventure. He was 24-88 with the Bonnies but was praised for helping the program rebound from a recruiting scandal. He was 0-5 against Dayton during his time there.
Solomon followed his one season at UD with eight seasons at Notre Dame. Last season, he moved to Georgetown but lost his job when John Thompson III was fired following the season.
Solomon graduated from the University of Virginia in 1987, the same year Grant graduated from UD.
“Anthony is well thought of in college basketball circles for his knowledge of the game and the type of person he is,” Grant said. “He is a known quantity nationally and especially well-connected in the Midwest. He has coached at some of the most respected programs in the country, and he understands what Dayton basketball means to the community after being here for one season and being a visiting coach at the arena.”
Kane: As a graduate assistant coach and then video coordinator for Virginia Commonwealth, Kane got his career started on Grant's staff from 2006-09. He followed Grant to Alabama, working as video coordinator through the 2010-11 season. He worked the last six seasons as an assistant coach at Murray State.
Kane also is a 2005 graduate of the University of Florida. Grant coached at Florida from 1996-2006.
Greer: A star at the University of Pittsburgh from 1997-2001, Greer got into coaching in 2015 after a long playing career in Europe. He spent the last two seasons as the director of player development at the University of Central Florida.
Hertz: He spent the last two seasons as a special assistant to head coach John Groce at Illinois. Groce was fired in March and is now the head coach at Akron. Hertz spent 19 seasons (1996-2015) at the University of Florida on Billy Donovan's staff. Grant was on the same staff.
