Recruiting roundup: Notre Dame offers Marion Local OL; updates on Ohio State, Wayne

Signing day has come and gone, but recruiting never stops.

After the 2017 seniors signed their names to letters of intent, we shift fully to what is looking like a loaded class of football prospects for 2018 as well as some player from 2019 getting early looks.

Lakota West is in the spotlight this week as several Firebirds added offers and made visits this week.

Linebacker Xavier Peters already has offers from a school in every Power Five league as well as the AAC and MAC.

In the past week, he added Louisville, UCLA, Pitt, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kentucky, Bowling Green, West Virginia, Maryland, Toledo and Penn State.

He told Scout.com his favorite school is Ohio State and that the Buckeyes and Michigan have both been among the schools showing him love...

Teammate Tyler Bentley, a junior defensive lineman, visited Kentucky for the Wildcats' Junior Day over the weekend and told Rivals.com he could make a decision next month after initially planning to do so during the summer.

LWHS sophomore Steven Faucheux, another defensive lineman, got an offer from Iowa State this week after visiting Auburn last weekend.

Per Scout.com, he also has offers from Cincinnati, Tulane, Kentucky and Maryland.

A week ago, Ohio State coaches Urban Meyer and Kerry Coombs were in town to check in with coach Larry Cox’s team.

Up the road and to the east, Wayne receiver L’Christian “Blue” Smith has already been getting all kinds of attention not just for football but basketball as well.

He will get another chance to impress at the Under Armour All-America Camp Series in Cincinnati in April.

Bentley and Peters were also invited to the AA camp along with Trotwood-Madison running back Raveion Hargrove...

Meanwhile, Wayne defensive end Alex Reigelsperger tweeted he plans another visit to Cincinnati in two weeks.

Even farther north, Marion Local offensive lineman John Dirksen was happy to announce he received an offer from Notre Dame.

Dirksen is a four-star recruit per the 247sports composite, and he also has offers from Michigan State, Kentucky, Northwestern and Iowa State...

Also adding offers last week was Dunbar running back Tavion Thomas, who is up to 11 with Kentucky and Iowa State jumping on board.

Thomas and teammate Antwuan Johnson visited Lexington last weekend.
