Red Scare to play Big Ten alums in The Basketball Tournament

The Dayton Flyers alumni team, the Red Scare, will play Big X in the round of 16 of The Basketball Tournament at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Big X beat D2 79-74 in the first game of the TBT on Saturday at Nationwide Arena, where all the games are being played, in Columbus. It was the first live nationally-televised game in the country since March 12. All the tournament games will be on ESPN.

The Big X roster includes several former Big Ten stars. Nick Ward, who scored 1,359 points in three seasons at Michigan State, led Big X with 18 points in the first game. Javon Bess, who played two seasons at Michigan State and two at Saint Louis, scored 11.

The Red Scare will have eight players: former Flyers Ryan Mikesell, Trey Landers, Kyle Davis, Darrell Davis, Devin Oliver and Jalen Robinson; former Louisville guard Ryan McMahon; and former Ohio State center Trevor Thompson. Former Dayton guard Rob Lowery was the latest player to withdraw from the roster.

Red Scare players and manager Joey Gruden arrived in Columbus on Friday and underwent a 24-hour quarantine period in their hotel, the Hyatt Regency, near Nationwide Arena. They will have their first practice Saturday.
