Reds add infielder to complete 40-man roster

The Cincinnati Reds claimed infielder Max Schrock off waivers from the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, completing their 40-man roster one week before pitchers and catchers report for spring training.

Schrock, 26, made his big-league debut in 2020 with the St. Louis Cardinals and went 3-for-17 in 11 games. He saw time at second base and shortstop.

Shrock was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 13th round in 2015. He was traded to the Oakland A’s in 2016 and then to the Cardinals in 2017. The Cubs claimed him off waivers in October and then designated him for assignment.

The Reds made one other roster move Wednesday, signing right-handed pitcher Braden Shipley to a minor-league contract and inviting him to major league spring training camp.

Shipley, 28, last appeared in the big leagues in 2018 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2019, he made 15 starts and 15 relief appearances with Triple-A Reno and had a 5.95 ERA.

The Reds have claimed off waivers from the Cubs IF Max Schrock. The 40-man roster is at 40.

The Reds have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with and invited to 2021 Major League spring training camp RHP Braden Shipley.
