Reds claim starting pitcher off waivers

The Cincinnati Reds claimed right-handed pitcher Dan Straily off waivers Friday.

Straily (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) started spring training with the Astros and on Monday was traded to San Diego.

This spring, Straily, 27, appeared in five games for the Astros, allowing eight earned runs and 15 hits while striking out 14 in 12 innings of work.

In four major league seasons with Oakland, Chicago (NL) and Houston, Straily has a 4.60 ERA and a 13-13 record in 52 appearances (45 starts).
