Reds’ Hamilton wants to race Bengals’ Ross

The fastest man in Major League Baseball is willing to race the fastest guy in the National Football League.

Cincinnati Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton said Thursday he would welcome a chance to race Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick John Ross, who broke the NFL Combine record with a 4.22 40-yard dash.

“Set it up. I’m ready,” Hamilton said after the Reds beat the Pirates 4-2 Thursday.

“I know he’s really, really fast, but I’m competitive,” Hamilton said. “I’m willing to do it. We can put something together for charity if you guys want and make some money off it.”

Hamilton said the last time he ran a timed 40-yard dash was in ninth grade when he recorded a 4.5.

“That’s when I was just getting a little older and learning to run a little bit,” he said. “I haven’t done it in a long time. It’s something I would like to see myself, just to see what I would be at compared to those guys.

“I think it would be a good race for the city and for me and him to get our names out there,” he added. “It’s something I’ll be looking forward to looking into with our agents and we’ll see how it goes.”
