Reds Install New Baseball Scoreboard System

The Cincinnati Reds are picking up the tab for the new, $10 million scoreboard system that will greet fans at Great American Ball Park when the season opens Monday.

The stadium is owned by Hamilton County, and commissioners were concerned that taxpayers would have to foot the bill. The Reds assured the local lawmakers on Monday that that won't be the case.

However, the county's lease with the Reds will have to be amended, and commissioners will vote on that Wednesday.

Under the 2003 lease, the county is responsible for replacing "components" in the park, including the main scoreboard and the smaller "ribbon boards" throughout the stadium. But because the Reds decided to replace the entire scoreboard system, the club agreed to pay.
