A.J. McCarron and Hue Jackson were reportedly near a reunitement.

The Browns and Bengals just missed the 4 p.m. trade deadline buzzer on a deal that would’ve sent McCarron to Cleveland. Jackson has attempted to acquire McCarron in the past.

But the subplot here is that it was supposedly the Browns that were late filing the deal.

Cleveland fans will shake their heads at another gaff by management. But the NFL can’t approve one deal post-deadline; it sets a bad precedent.

The hunt for a signal caller continues in Cleveland, while the Bengals will retain McCarron for at least one more half-season.
