Centerville grad claimed on waivers by Browns

The Cleveland Browns claimed Centerville High School graduate Ifeadi Odenigbo on waivers Sunday.

Odenigbo, a 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive end, was one of five players reportedly claimed by the Browns.

“At the end of the day, I think that we are a better football team on both sides of the line of scrimmage ,” Browns GM John Dorsey said. “I think that our skill groups have a lot of young and upcoming guys. That is all that you can ask for.”

A 2012 Centerville grad, Odenigbo played collegiately at Northwestern, where he finished his career second on its careerall-time sacks list.

He was a seventh-round draft pick in 2017 and spent last season on the Vikings’ practice squad. Odenigbo made 11 tackles, including two sacks, during the preseason.s

The Browns also claimed DL Carl Davis (Ravens), OL Aaron Neary (Rams), DB Tavierre Thomas (Cardinals) and LB Tanner Vallejo (Bills).

In corresponding moves, the team waived OL Austin Reiter, DL Jamie Meder, DL Carl Nassib, LB Jermaine Grace and DB Jeremiah McKinnon.

The Browns open the season next Sunday at home vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers.
