Reports: Wayne grad Marcus Freeman likely to be next head coach at Notre Dame

Marcus Freeman is in line to be the next head coach of Notre Dame football according to multiple reports.

The Wayne High School graduate is the defensive coordinator for the Fighting Irish, who lost head coach Brian Kelly to LSU earlier this week and are still in the hunt for a College Football Playoff bid.

The 35-year-old Freeman has been considered a rising star in the coaching community for several seasons, including four at Cincinnati where he was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for Luke Fickell.

He was a highly regarded recruit in the class of 2004 and spent five seasons at Ohio State, where he played in two national championship games, was part of four Big Ten championship teams and the first Buckeyes class to beat Michigan five times.

Freeman started his coaching career at Ohio State as a graduate assistant under Jim Tressel in 2010 then spent two seasons at Kent State and four at Purdue before reuniting with Fickell, his position coach at OSU.
