H.S. Results for 1/10/17: Another record for Franklin’s Ferrell

Sophomore Layne Ferrell set her second school record in three days and Emma Bicknell gave Franklin the lead for good with two free throws early in overtime Monday as the Wildcats outlasted Miamisburg, 65-63, in high school girls basketball.

Ferrell was 17-for-18 at the free-throw line, breaking the single-game record for free throws in a game set by Emily Noble in 2003. On Saturday, Ferrell had extended her school record of consecutive free throws made to 43 before finally missing.

The teams battled to a 56-56 tie through regulation before Bicknell put Franklin ahead to stay. The gap widened to 65-60 before Miamisburg made a 3-point goal with 3 seconds remaining.

Ferrell finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Skyler Weir was 3-for-4 on 3-point goals and scored 11. Franklin (6-6) has won five of its last six after a 1-5 start.
