HS Roundup 11/22: Anna football wins, girls basketball tips off

Anna won the school’s first football regional championship, cruising past Archbold 42-7 at Lima Spartan Stadium in the Division VI, Region 23 final on Friday night.

Riley Huelskamp, named the D-VI offensive player of the year in the All-Southwest District teams announced earlier in the week, led the way with over 150 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.

Bart Bixler added a TD run and TD pass, a 36-yard strike to Nolan Emerson early in the second half, and Brandon Shannon had a 62-yard scoop-and-score.

Anna (12-1) will face Mechanicsburg next in the D-VI state semifinal. The OHSAA will announce state semifinal locations on Sunday.

Girls Basketball

Arcanum 58, National Trail 35: Kayla O’Daniel scored 17 points and Madelyn Fearon added 15 for host Arcanum in the Roy Hutchinson Memorial Tournament.

Franklin Monroe 77, Clinton-Massie 27: Corina Conley tallied a career-high 30 points along with nine rebounds and ten steals in leading Franklin Monroe at the Roy Hutchinson Memorial Tournament in Arcanum. Chloe Brumbaugh added 13 points.

Miami East 39, Catholic Central 38: Camryn Miller hit a transition layup at the buzzer to propel Miami East to victory.

St. Marys 42, Fort Jennings 33: Kendall Dieringer paced St. Marys with 14 points and Noelle Ruane added 11.

West Liberty-Salem 50, Fairbanks 29: Emily Hollar tallied 18 points and Selena Weaver added 13 for WLS in a season-opening win.
