HS Roundup 1/18: CJ girls defeat state-ranked Hoban

The Chaminade-Julienne girls defeated state-ranked Hoban on Saturday, 57-42, in the Battle of the Hawks Nest. The Eagles built a big half-time lead — 29-10 — but were forced to regroup late to weather a furious comeback. A 12-0 run sealed the deal.

Staci Greene was named game MVP; she had 16 points. Even Monaghan had 12 points and grabbed 13 boards; Courtney Redd had 10 points.

Saturday’s Classic in the Country Challenge saw impressive showings for local teams.

Fort Loramie defeated Loudonville, 79-19, paced by 19 from Ava Sholtis and 15 from Dana Rose; Margo Mattes had 21 for the Comets as Mason defeated Canton McKinley 53-30; Lakota West, led by Chance Gray’s 21 points, narrowly defeated Hoover, 47-41; Fairmont, paced by 18 from Mallory Hullinger and 17 from Madison Bartley, defeated GlenOak 78-35.

Tri-Village pushed hard in the fourth quarter but fell just short of Margaretta, 62-59. Rylee Sagester had 23 for Tri-Village.

Girls Basketball

St. Bernard 74, Cin. Christian School 59: Lizzie Grooms had 22 points for Cin. Christian School.

Bradford 55, Riverside 28: Bradford, now 11-3, got 20 from Austy Miller and 11 from Remi Harleman and Cassie Mead.

Badin 48, Lakota East 32: A strong first-half propelled Badin to the win on Saturday. Lizzy Meyer had 15 points. Claire Vogelmann had 9 for East.

Fairlawn 42, Newton 28: Madalynn Hughes had 8 and Katelyn Walters also had 8.

Bellbrook 52, Eaton 33: Bellbrook moves to 15-3 with the win.

Tippecanoe 41, Piqua 31: Tylah Yeomans had 10 for Piqua.

Waynesville 62, Dixie 22: A dominant first quarter — 19-4 — pushed the Spartans past Dixie. Leah Butterbaugh had 13; Carli Brown had 11.

Carlisle 58, Northridge 31: Diamonique Story shot 6-of-12 for 14 points as Carlisle rode a 24-2 second quarter to the win.

Oak Hills 56, Colerain 42: Dy’Jhanik Armfield scored 25 for Oak Hills.

Sycamore 59, Hamilton 22: Leah Riley paced Sycamore with 16. Jayden Issacs had 8 for the Blue.

Grayson 71, Wayne 56: In Flyin’ To The Hoop competition, a slow start proved too much for Wayne to overcome. Cam Fancher and Malcolm Curry had 13 points apiece.

St. Marys Memorial 63, Coldwater 48: Tyler Schwieterman had 14 points for Coldwater.

Springboro 48, Kings 30: Sam Feldman had 12 for ‘Boro.

St. Xavier 54, Sycamore 39: Kobe Rodgers led the way with 20 as the Bombers pulled away from Sycamore for the win. Chauncey Grandison had 12 for Sycamore.

Badin 69, Talawanda 48: A dominant second quarter paced 12-3 Badin on Saturday night. Zach Switzer had 16, Donovan Watkins had 14 and Josh Hegermann had 13 for Badin. Jonathan Richter’s 18 led the way for Talawanda.

Fairlawn 70, Newton 55: Harold Oburn had 12 and Chandler Peters had 9 for Newton.

Girls Swimming

Coldwater’s Macy May set a school record in the 500 free with a time of 5:44.06. Coldwater won the Coldwater Tri against Celina and St. Marys.
