HS Roundup 5/15: Kearns pitches perfect game, sets record for Russia

Daniel Kearns tallied his second perfect game of the season and set a school record in leading Russia to a 10-0 win versus Riverside in Division IV sectional baseball action on Wednesday.

Kearns struck out 11 in the winning effort, pushing his career total to 195, a record for the Raiders.

Will Sherman and Gavin George had run-scoring doubles and Kearns and Carter Francis singled in runs for Russia at the plate.

The win sets up a district semifinal matchup with a familiar foe in unbeaten Fort Loramie on Monday.

Fort Loramie defeated Ansonia 12-0 on Wednesday.

Anna 5, Northeastern 2: Carter Elliott paced Anna, going 3-for-3 at the plate and pitching a complete game. Brandon Shannon added a suicide squeeze bunt and Wil Luthman had a sac-fly. Connor Obee and Gavin Yearout each had a pair of hits to lead Northeastern.

Arcanum 6, Preble Shawnee 5: Arcanum won in walk-off fashion, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Wade Meeks led the way, going 3-for-3 at the plate and recording the win on the mound. Evan Atchley added a double.

Greeneview 2, Carlisle 1: Braydan Dobney smacked a double down the left field line to plate both runs for Greeneview. Josh Robinson added a pair of hits, Ian Tamplin recorded the final out with a diving catch in centerfield and Mitchell Hines pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.

Greenon 7, West Liberty-Salem 4: Greenon jumped ahead early, fell behind after a WLS rally but recovered with five runs in the sixth inning to record the sectional win. Zavier Hamilton knocked in two runs and Zack Glock scored twice for WLS.

Tri-County North 4, Southeastern 3: TCN rallied with two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Casey Whipp recorded a pair of doubles with one RBI and Collin Whipp had two hits with one RBI and two runs scored to lead the way.

Fort Loramie 10, Botkins 1: Desiree Fogt tripled twice, Macy Imwalle had one three-bagger and Aleah Frilling finished with nine strikeouts to earn the win.
