HS Roundup 2/27: Newton boys knock off No. 1 seed Legacy Christian

Newton limited Legacy Christian to four points in the final quarter, rallying for a 49-46 upset win over the top seed in a Division IV boys basketball sectional game on Tuesday at Troy.

Chet Jamison and Kleyson Wehrley chipped in 11 points apiece and Charlie Walker hit a pair of free throws that put Newton ahead for good with 37 seconds to play.

Newton, the No. 10 seed, advances to play Franklin Monroe on Friday at Troy, 7 p.m.

Division I

Centerville 79, Northmont 45: Matt Pearce totaled 14 points, Mo Njie added 12 and Jason Sneed 10 for Centerville, which won a 15th consecutive game.

Xenia 76, Miamisburg 74, OT: Dylan Hoosier dropped in the game-winning basket with eight seconds to play for Xenia after Samari Curtis fouled out early in overtime. Curtis poured in 48 points, passing the 40-point mark for the ninth time this season. Corey Hartman had 20 points and Brett Hensley 18 in a losing effort for ‘Burg.

Division III

Brookville 52, Indian Lake 30: Jake Gudorf set a Brookville record for assists in a season in the victory, passing the mark of 178 set by Kyle Haney in 1985.

Coldwater 67, Paulding 52: Marcus Bruns paced Coldwater with 23 points and Cole Frilling and Noah Miller added 12 apiece.

Madison 70, Milton-Union 32: Grant Whisman netted 18 points, Levi McMonigle 17 and Matt Gomia 11 to lead Madison. Caleb Wintrow tallied 11 points for Milton-Union.

National Trail 56, Arcanum 38: Zach Woodall led National Trail with 13 points. Carter Gray had 11 points for Arcanum.

Versailles 53, Twin Valley South 45: Evan Hiestand scored 20 points, Ryan Martin added 12 and Versailles upset Twin Valley South.

Division IV

Fort Loramie 55, Riverside 35: Mason Kemper put up 15 points, Eli Rosengarten added 12 and Nick Brandewie 10 for Fort Loramie.

Fort Recovery 70, Waynesfield-Goshen 34: Clay Schmitz recorded 17 points and Grant Knapke tacked on 14 for Fort Recovery.
