HS Roundup 1/24: Whisman posts career-high scoring mark in Madison win

Grant Whisman had a career-high scoring performance to lead Madison past Milton-Union 59-45 in a key Southwestern Buckeye League boys basketball contest on Friday night.

The SWBL’s leading scorer finished with 37 points, including a perfect 9-for-9 mark from the foul line. Whisman also hauled in 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Nate Brumbaugh had a career-high of his own with 20 points for Milton-Union.

Boys Basketball

Alter 60, McNicholas 53: Conor Stolly chipped in 19 points and Jack Smith and Brady Uhl tacked on 15 apiece to help Alter improve to 13-2.

Anna 61, Russia 50: Bart Bixler and Isaiah Masteller combined for 35 points to pace Anna. Caleb Monnin tallied 14 points and Zane Shappie 10 for Russia.

Badin 50, Chaminade Julienne 43: Donovan Watkins tallied 14 points and Badin improved to 13-3 and 7-2 in league play. Brandon Gibson scored 13 points for CJ.

Bellbrook 46, Valley View 34: Gabe Pavlak paced Bellbrook with 16 points and Ashton Ault tacked on 14.

Bethel 42, Miami East 34: Nick Schmidt recorded 15 points with seven rebounds and eight assists for Bethel, which closed the game on a 14-3 run.

Botkins 72, Fairlawn 62: Jayden Priddy poured in 24 points, Tyler Free 16 and Zane Paul 14 for Botkins. Isaac Ambos paced Fairlawn with 15 points.

Centerville 53, Northmont 44: Kebba Njie finished with 15 points and Jason Hayes 12 for Centerville, which moved to 7-1 in league play.

Cin. Christian 73, MVCA 47: Logan Woods scored 21 points to pace Cin. Christian, which opened the game on a 16-8 run. Kareem Swain added 15 points and Kai Vance 13.

Dunbar 86, Stivers 85: Darian Leslie led Dunbar with 21 points, Marcellis Thompson added 20 and Dimitri Jackson 13. Allen Lattimore poured in 28 points in a losing effort for Stivers and DaJuan Allen added 23.

Edgewood 63, Ross 59, OT: Aaron Frazier recorded 20 points, John Shepherd 18 and Eric Brooks hit a clutch basket to send the game into overtime for Edgewood. Cole Gronas led Ross with 16 points.

Fairfield 58, Middletown 53: Zavian Ricks poured in 32 points, including six three-point baskets, to help Fairfield win in rally fashion. Johrdon Mumford chipped in 16 points for Middletown.

Fenwick 58, Purcell Marian 43: A.J. Braun carried Fenwick with a double-double effort of 22 points and 13 rebounds and Dan Luers added 13 points.

Fort Loramie 51, Houston 33: Grant Albers netted 12 points and Nolan Berning 10 for Fort Loramie. Adam Winner had 15 points for Houston.

Greeneview 60, Northeastern 53: Cole Allen put up 23 points and Gabe Caudill 12 to pace Greeneview. Dale Bush led Northeastern with 14 points and Noah Fenton added 12.

Greenon 63, West Jefferson 55: Jaden Journell and Luke Downing scored 15 points apiece to pace Greenon. Mason Potter tacked on 13 and Cade Rice 11.

Hamilton 52, Sycamore 32: Trey Robinson posted 14 points to lead a balanced effort for Hamilton.

Lakota East 61, Mason 48: Nate Johnson put up 21 points, Jadon Coles 13 and Lakota East moved to 13-2 overall and 9-1 in league play.

Madison 59, Milton-Union 45: Grant Whisman poured in 37 points to help Madison move to 14-2. Nate Brumbaugh led Milton-Union with 20 points.

Madison Plains 55, Triad 35: Dillon Nott finished with 11 points and Ayden Sanford and Ayden Spriggs tacked on 10 apiece in the loss for Triad.

Mississinawa Valley 40, Arcanum 37: Blake Scholl totaled 17 points to help Mississinawa Valley hold off an Arcanum rally effort.

National Trail 53, Ansonia 44: Cam Harrison tallied 20 points, Zach Woodall 11 and National Trail moved to 13-3 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

New Miami 75, Norwood 67: Deanza Duncan exploded for 29 points and Jordan Robinette tacked on 20 points with nine assists for New Miami.

Newton 60, Twin Valley South 56: Kleyson Wehrley bucketed 20 of his 26 points in the first half to pace Newton.

Northridge 53, Dixie 42: Jamel Crusoe led Northridge with 15 points, Darryl Story Jr. added 14 and Chad Florence 11. Northridge secured the win with a 12-4 run in the final quarter.

Princeton 82, Lakota West 77: Julian Mackey tallied 27 points, Carter Combs 21 and Alex Afari brought down 12 rebounds in a losing effort for Lakota West.

Springfield 74, Miamisburg 79: Jackson McGowan had a career-high 18 points in a losing effort for ‘Burg.

St. Henry 53, New Knoxville 31: Riley Link totaled 13 points and Jackson Heath hauled in 10 rebounds for St. Henry. Carson Bierlein put up 11 points for New Knoxville.

Thurgood Marshall 89, Belmont 72: Anthony McComb led five players in double-digit scoring for Thurgood with 24 points. Ronald Smith and Prophet Johnson added 19 apiece. Shawn Phillips had 23 points for Belmont.

Tippecanoe 71, Piqua 45: Zach Frederick drilled five three-point baskets on the way to 21 points to pace Tippecanoe. Ben Knostman added 13 and Gavin Garlitz added 11. Dre’Sean Roberts scored 14 points for Piqua.

Trotwood 99, Fairmont 64: Courtney Blake scored 20 points to help Trotwood remain unbeaten in conference. Kaleb Hall had 18 points and Danye Lewis 15 points with 10 rebounds in the loss for Fairmont.

Wayne 48, Lebanon 44: Wayne ended a five-game losing skid with the victory. Blake Lamb paced Lebanon with 13 points and Carter Davidson added 12.

West Liberty-Salem 56, Catholic Central 42: Jack Eggleston posted 16 points, Nick Burden 11 and Holden Nease 10 for WLS, which bumped to 10-3 overall.

Wilmington 58, Batavia 54, OT: Cam Coomer tied a career high with 37 points and Wilmington snapped a five-game losing skid.

Xenia 55, Troy 41: Cameron McFarland chipped in 10 points and eight players scored in a balanced attack for Xenia.
