HS Roundup 5/17: WLS softball advances to regional tourney at WSU

Kelsey Day and Kayle Henderson clobbered home runs to power West Liberty-Salem softball in a 7-1 win versus Williamsburg in a Division III district final on Friday.

Day also accounted for the win in the circle. At the plate Day doubled, homered and drove in two runs.

Henderson went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI and Maddie Estes tacked on two RBI.

West Liberty-Salem moves on to the regional tournament to face Brookville on Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Wright State.

Brookville 12, Deer Park 2: Brookville got off to a hot start with five runs in the first inning, cruising to a district title.

Central Buckeye Conference All-Conference Teams: Josie Duncan of North Union and Jillian Jakse of Jonathan Alder were tabbed as the players of the year.

Sectional Tournament

Coldwater 2, Van Buren 0: Cole Frilling tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out six to help Coldwater advance. Myles Blasingame, Jacob Wenning and Alex Wourms each had a hit for Coldwater.

Elder 16, Lebanon 11: Lebanon fell in a sectional game that was suspended from Thursday.

Fort Recovery 6, Elmwood 4: Fort Recovery pushed across five runs in the sixth inning to rally from a three-run deficit.

Regular Season

Centerville 8, Troy 2: Morgan Colopy launched a two-run homer and Connor Walch and Kyle Mahon combined on the mound to lead Centerville.

New Bremen 6, Russia 0: Justin Tenkman scattered six hits in a complete-game shutout, Patrick Wells drove in two runs off of two hits and Bryce Blickle and Mitchell Hays hit doubles to lead New Bremen.
