At present Schiml plays in Community’s 18-hole Wednesday morning league on the Dales course. It was during a league match Sept. 9 that she achieved every golfer’s ambition by making a hole-in-one on the par-3 11th hole.
“It was quite a thrill,” she said a few days ago. “I never thought I’d have one.”
She had waited long enough. The next day was her 84th birthday.
Scohy earns honor: Bellbrook's Jeff Scohy has earned the player of the year award in the Miami Valley Golf Association for the fourth time. Scohy, who finished with 697 points, previously had the No. 1 ranking in 2008, 2012 and 2014.
Scohy won the Ohio Mid-Amateur, finished second in the Miami Valley Mid-Am, tied for second in the Miami Valley Metro and tied for 20th in the Ohio Am.
The runnerup was Pete Betzold, who won the Metropolitan Championship and accumulated 285 points in three events. Alec Tahy (255) was third, Nicolas Paxson (207) fourth and Pete Samborsky (205) fifth.
Tim Sorrows’ victory in the Senior Metropolitan was enough to make him the senior player of the year for the second year in succession. He earned 200 points. Roger Johnson (196), Skip Snow (165), Dan Devore (150) and Brian Hodgson (125) were next in line.
Valley team selected: The annual five-team Ohio Intrastate Tournament will be held Sept. 30 at Tartan Fields Country Club in Dublin.

Internships available: The Miami Valley Golf Association is accepting applications for two P.J. Boatwright Internships for the 2016 golf season. The successful applicants will work out of the MVGA office and assist in the operation of the MVGA's many events.
This program, established in 1991 by the United States Golf Association, is designed to give experience to those interested in pursuing a career in golf administration, while assisting state and regional golf associations in the promotion of amateur golf, on a short-term, entry level basis.
Steve Jurick, executive director of the MVGA, said those selected are typically college students interested in sports marketing and some basic knowledge of golf is helpful.
The Boatwright internships are named after a man who was a highly-respected member of the USGA staff.
