Sinclair drops first game in NJCAA World Series

Sinclair (52-11) suffered its first defeat in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II World Series tournament Thursday night.

The Tartan Pride lost 6-3 to GateWay Community College (Ariz.) on Thursday night at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

Sinclair ran into trouble in the first inning, allowing the first two batters to reach on errors, culminating in a three-run inning for the Geckos. GateWay added two runs in the second and another in the seventh.

Nick Massey and Tyler Cowles each had RBIs in the fourth inning, and Chad Roberts added an RBI single in the eighth for Sinclair’s only runs.

Despite the loss, Sinclair advanced to today’s semifinals at 4:30 p.m. to face Mercer County (N.J.), a team the Tartan Pride beat 12-8 in Wednesday’s third-round matchup.
