Springboro’s Youker succeeds Holweger as boys basketball coach

Springboro High School will promote Kyle Youker to the boys varsity basketball coach pending school-board approval. He will succeed Mike Holweger as the Panthers’ coach.

Youker coached the Springboro freshman boys the last four seasons and the Panthers’ boys JV from 2005-13. Prior to that he was an assistant at Carroll from 2000-05.

Holweger guided Springboro the last four seasons, going 13-12 overall last season and 4-7 in the debut of the Greater Western Ohio Conference National West. The Panthers were a combined 56-39 and shared a GWOC South title in the 2015-16 season.

Also this week, John Rossi was named the girls basketball coach at Franklin, succeeding Leah Sams.

Rossi was the coach at Fenwick the past three seasons, his second tenure with the Falcons. He also was the girls coach at Middletown Madison and led the Mohawks to a Division III state runner-up in 2010.
