Springfield’s Cameron Hoelscher has favorites, waiting for more offers

Springfield senior Cameron Hoelscher is looking forward to picking a college and leading the Wildcats back to the playoffs.

In that order.

A three-star prospect who led 7-4 Springfield with 88 tackles last season, Hoelscher has 10 scholarship offers as June winds down.

Hoelscher said Kentucky, Air Force, Army and Bowling Green top his list, but he remains in contact with some other schools.

That includes Rutgers and Purdue, two places he visited this summer.

“It’s crazy — there are so many blessings, but it’s crazy how many people want you,” he said. “It’s just a crazy process.”

He plans to verbally commit before the start of the season, but he is still waiting to see if any more offers will come in before he makes his final choice.

As for his last season of high school football, Hoelscher figures to again spearhead a defense that wants to play more than 11 games this fall.

“It’s like a new environment here,” he said during a summer practice. “There’s one goal, 15 weeks. That’s what we want to get to, and everybody is buying into it.”
