NCAA Tournament: Voice of Volunteers - Wright State’s first-round foe - is Kettering native

Bob Kesling might bleed orange as the play-by-play voice of the Tennessee Volunteers, but the Kettering native and proud Fairmont West High School graduate admits he can still sing the Dragons fight song as well as he can rattle off the words to Rocky Top.

Kesling is in his 19th season as the voice of Vols football and basketball, but he’s been in Knoxville ever since he left Kettering for Tennessee as a walk-on fullback for the Tennessee football team.

Kesling called this Tennessee team a group of overachievers. The Vols were picked to finish 13th in the Southeastern Conference before the season.

He said he was probably one of the few people in Knoxville who had heard of Wright State when the pairings were announced Sunday, and although Kettering will always be home, he hopes the third-seeded Vols can advance over the 14th-seeded Raiders on Thursday afternoon at the America Airlines Center.
