The Red Scare took advantage of the opportunity the Dayton Flyers didn’t get in March and reached the final four of The Basketball Tournament.

The Dayton alumni team beat House of ‘Paign 83-76 in the quarterfinals Friday at Nationwide Arena. The Red Scare took a big lead with a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter. Former Louisville guard Ryan McMahon scored 10 points in a row during the run.

However, with the Elam Ending in effect, House of ‘Paign went on a 13-0 run to get back into the game. The Red Scare finally ended the game on a fast-break dunk by Trey Landers.

Landers led the Red Scare with 19 points. Ryan Mikesell and McMahon each scored 16. McMahon made 4 of 9 3-pointers.

Former Ohio State center Trevor Thompson had 14 points and eight rebounds. Devin Oliver scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds.

The Red Scare held Mike Daum, who averaged 18.7 points in the first two games, to 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting. Daum scored 3,067 points in his career at South Dakota State.

The Red Scare will play the Golden Eagles, a Marquette alumni team, at 4 p.m. Sunday in the semifinals. The winner of that game plays for the championship and the $1 million prize at 7 p.m. Tuesday. All games will be televised on ESPN.

The No. 4 seed Golden Eagles beat No. 12 Team Brotherly Love 83-76 in the first quarterfinal Friday. Dwight Buycks scored 19 points. Darius Johnson-Odom scored 18.

Two more quarterfinals will be played Saturday. No. 2 seed Overseas Elite plays a Marshall alumni team, No. 23 seed Herd That, at 2 p.m. No. 3 Boeheim's Army, a Syracuse team, plays No. 22 Sideline Cancer at 4 p.m.

The Red Scare led 22-17 after one quarter. Ryan Mikesell hit a floater in the final seconds.

The Red Scare opened the second quarter on a 7-2 run and led 38-32 at halftime after a free throw by Oliver in the final seconds.

The Red Scare led by as many as 12 points in the third quarter after 3-pointers by Mikesell and McMahon. They took a 58-49 lead into the fourth quarter after Landers followed a miss by Mikesell with a dunk at the buzzer.

The Red Scare received a first-round bye and advanced to the quarterfinals by winning their first game Wednesday, 77-68 against another Big Ten team, Big X.
