1. Miller told his dad about the job in a California hotel room. They had just finished watching Miller's brother, Sean, coach Arizona in the NCAA tournament. Said John Miller, "And all of a sudden Arch goes, 'Guess what, Dad? I got a shot here (at the Indiana job). Whaddya think?'"

2. John Calipari added some advice for Miller. Said John Miller, "He listened to Sean and Cal – John Calipari is real close to us family-wise – and I spoke up a bit, too."

3. Miller's mother would prefer a new color. Once she learned Miller would be taking the Indiana job, she asked what color the Hoosiers wear. Her sons have coached at predominantly red-color schools, like Dayton and Arizona. Said John Miller, "And she says, 'Oh my God! Red…again?'"
